Marsha Ferguson
I am an emerging Chicago artist who has been drawing for more than five years. I have always been interested in art every since childhood, but have never officially taken any classes until my sophomore year at Harold Washington College while pursuing an Architectural Degree. After rediscovering my passion for art, I decided to take another drawing course and from then on I was convinced that this is the direction I want my life to go. The medium that I first began working with was charcoal. I realized that my best subjects are abstraction and expressionism because its an opportunity for me to freely and truly express my emotions and unleash my imagination with out some constraints. In my work, I use a lot of symbols--mostly dealing with the eyes. Eyes speak and are a gateway to the soul. I use eyes in my pieces to talk about my life or use them as a metaphor to explain something that I feel or what may inspire me. Most of my works are expressions and transformations into my true self letting go negativity from within and having the confidence to shine bright. While other pieces are just spontaneous drawings. As I continue to develop as an artist I am discovering that I could never have to much space to draw, I always feel like it can be bigger and bolder in color. Even though my favorite medium is charcoal I always keep myself open to exploring different types of media and drawing techniques.
